Heather Rush, Platinum Magazine, September 2002
Bradley Cooper stars in Alias on ABC. He portrays "Will," the best friend of Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner). The hit TV
series has only been on television for a year and has received 11 Emmy nominations.
How has your style evolved over the last few years?
College:
Barbed-wire choker
Product-infused long hair
Over the shoulder saddle bag
Graduate School:
Sweat-soaked neck bandanna
Hair wrapped up in any old rubber band
New shades every week
L.A.:
Comfortably bare neck
Messy short hair that can never be short enough
Steve McQueen-style Stussy's
What one item in your closet do you wear the most? My gray, hooded zip-up wool sweater. It layers really well.
Describe your style. Original comfort.
Do you have any style idols? Steve McQueen because he exuded this "sexy manliness," close fitting, clean lines, and slick
shades. Ewan McGregor, a man who can wear eyeliner to the Golden Globes and make it work; that 70's punk band, New York Dolls for
the pure freedom of it all.
What was the first item you remember choosing yourself because you thought it was cool? It was in second grade, a cream-colored
three-piece spring suit. The tie was a clip-on. Unfortunately, I just couldn't find a proper one that small. I wanted to be my father.
Thank God I had an older sister to protect me when I wore it to school. I thought it was kick-ass. (And there was a brief stint in high
school with suspenders. Luckily I made it out alive.)
Where are you from? Does that city influence your style? Even though I was born in Philly, I am a resident New Yorker. I've found
that because of the nature of my lifestyle there, being out from morning till night, I have to layer my clothes appropriately to account for
the weather. So, layering became a necessary style choice for me.
Who are your favorite designers? Any designer that makes a boot cut pant, understands how to make a tight-fitting, loose t-shirt and
never feels the need to put the logo in an obvious place.
What is the oldest thing in your closet? My cherished navy blue "Naples Lobster" T-shirt that I've been wearing since that family trip
to Maine when I was twelve. It has since evolved into a mesh-like pinney. I'm hoping it makes it to the end of the year.
What are your favorite stores? American Rag for my boot cut pants and PlayAngry.com.
Pretty much anywhere with short lines.
Looking back as far as junior high or high school, can you remember any fashion disasters? A (thankfully) brief obsession with feathered
hair. I wore soccer shoes a bit past their time. And that suspender incident.
What was your first big purchase for your wardrobe when you started making money? My first suit that fit well.
When you travel, do you adapt your style to fit the locale? I did these treks around the world in grad school and they made me realize how
unimportant syle was in relation to functionality. I'll take a Neoprene/Gortex vest over a Prada suit any day.
