Bradley Cooper might have taken his time getting in front of the camera, but once there he wasted none finding success. "I certainly avoided acting in high school," he says. "Looking back, I know it had a lot to do with fear. It was just my way of avoiding doing something that put so much at stake." Instead, he settled for the honors program in English Literature and the crew team at Georgetown, and only began studying acting once he'd graduated. One short year after leaving the Actor's Studio in New York (in the interim he landed small parts in the now defunct show The Street and Changing Lanes, starring Ben Affleck), he was cast as Will Tippin, the confidant/possible love interest of Jennifer Garner's Sydney on the spy show Alias. "I know you're thinking it was easy to get here," he says with a laugh. "But there really were some bumps in that road, I swear!" While L.A. has been good to Bradley (it's hard to complain when you've got a plum role on a hit series), that's not to say he doesn't miss home ... a lot. "I love coming back to New York," he says. "In L.A., everything is a big production. When you want a bottle of water, you can't walk to the deli - there's the car, the traffic, the parking. You start to think, Oh maybe I don't need that water after all. A guy can get very thirsty." If life in Hollywood has left him somewhat parched, the success he's found there hasn't turned him into one of those cocky actor types. He's certainly held on to his East Coast charm and self-deprecating humor. "I'm sure a year from now I'll be a total jerk," he jokes. "You won't want to have anything to do with me." Somehow we doubt it.
